A Blingtastic Konadicure - What A Drag!

Good morning, Dear Reader!

It's barely morning, but I'm up and around so I thought I'd show you a recent Konadicure of the Day that I really like.  Again, I've used a Konad pattern, this one from plate S6, which I've missed.

I started with three coats of Color Club's What A Drag, a really bligy silver.

To it, I added the woven pattern from plate S6, using black Konad Special Polish for the stamping.  The results made me as happy as I can be with my nubbins!

That's the update for tonight (or this morning).  On another note, I did hear from our tentative winner of the bottle of BTO, so it's officially hers.  I'll have another HTF to give away soon, and will wish you luck on that one.

Until tomorrow, Dear Reader, love and nail polish to you!

L'Oreal Star Magnets in Silver

Good morning, Dear Reader!

This morning I have a tentative announcement of the winner of the Black Tie Optional: it was Sunny.  I have yet to receive a reply to the notification email, so I'll wait until next Friday to hear from her.  If I don't be then, I'll randomly select another winner, but in the meantime, I'll hope for a reply.

Today I continued my efforts to take advantage of my new nubbins by using polishes differently, and today I chose L'Oreal Star Magnets in Silver.  A friend of mine got these for me a while back, and I had yet to use Silver, so it seemed like it was worth a try to see if the star pattern would center on my nails.  Indeed it did!

To use these polishes, I apply one coat as usual.  Next time I'll use a regular polish that matches the color as the first coat, as it's been established that using the precious 9 ml Star Magnet as the second coat only works just as well as using it for both coats.  It's the second coat where the trick comes in.  Here, I apply another coat to one nail, hold the nail up to the magnet for eight seconds, then move on to the next nail until all ten have been painted and treated with the magnet.  I took pictures of the magnet for you to show you how it works - there's a little ledge on it to anchor the nail, and I use that holding my nail parallel to the magnet.

Here's the front view of the magnet, which is on a ring around the lid of the bottle.

Here's the side view if the magnet, which shows the little ledge upon which I anchor the tip of my nail.

That's the process I used, and now I'll show you my results, which I admittedly prefer over the Funky French I had using another Star Magnet on longer nails.

I'm a sucker for a good silver, which this is, and I really love the strange effect the magnet brings to it.  This is a mani that makes me happy I have nubbins, at least for today!

That's what I have for you for now, Dear Reader.  Until later, love and nail polish to you!

Black & Blue Argyle

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I decided to take the advice of my wise friend Mickster and use the Konad patterns that I couldn't double stamp while my nails are short enough to take advantage of them, so I've had some fun with Konad.  There are quite few good ones I haven't been able to use, so I'm glad I had her input.

Yesterday, I used Brucci Black + Blue as a base for an argyle pattern from plate M60.  This pattern was what had me lemming a Konad for about a year before trying it - my friend Grayeyez did a mani with it that just amazed me, and it looked so intricate that I thought Konading would be difficult.  I'm grateful it's not!  Here's Black + Blue on its own.

For the argyle pattern, I used Revlon Petal Chrome to stamp.  Here are my results.

That was the happy result of some Fun with Konad yesterday.

There are a few hours left to enter the random drawing for a bottle of OPI's Black Tie Optional, so please do if you have not!  I'm off to my uncle's funeral this morning, so it might be tomorrow before I announce the winner.  Until then, love and nail polish to you!

Precision Color FX Collection

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Today I have Precision's new Spring 2009 Collection for you, Color FX.  I'm told these colos are replacing their Get Loud (neon) collection, so get the neons while you can!

These are all vibrant colors, but not quite neon, and five of the six are creme finishes.  Here they are, all three coats over a base.  They're in descending order that I like them.

Wait a Melon for Me is a slightly jelly cantaloupe colored creme and I swatched it after the yellow - please forgive my poor job of removing the yellow!).

Pink with a Wink is a bright pink with a very subtle shimmer.

The Next "It" Girl is bright yellow, slightly darker and much more opaque than OPI's The It Color.

Honey Dew This is a fantastic green creme along the lines of CNY's Greenwich Ave, with less yellow and not quite as bright.

Surfin' in Malibue is a stunning bright, somewhat turquoise blue.

Pur-fect FX is a mid tone bluish purple creme, which I wore after swatching yesterday.

I got mine from sparkling*nails on ebay, who's a great seller.  She ships free to the US and Canada over $100, and if you look around her store, you'll find it's *really, really* easy to hit the $100 mark!  She also has Nubar, SpaRitual, and Zoya (in addition to the big guys), so take a look.  If she doesn't have what you're looking for in stock, if you email her at sparklingnails@verizon.net, she'll take good care of you.  As always, I have nothing to gain if you buy from her, I just want you to get the good stuff!

That's all for now, Dear Reader.  Until later, love and nail polish to you!

I Have Good News and I Have Bad News

Good evening, Dear Reader!

I have good news and I have bad news tonight.  I was recently thinking of the fishnet pattern on Konad plate M57, wondering how I could use it.  The good news is that I'm able to use it, but the bad news is that it's because I broke a second nail and filed them down.  I'm sporting single-stamp nubbins.

Tomorrow, I'll have the new Spring 2009 Precision collection, Color FX, the last pictures on my nail longs.  Tonight, I have one of the colors from that collection, Pur-fect FX, Konaded with SpaRitual Thunder Road using plate M57.  Here are my new nails.

That's the update for now, Dear Reader.  Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Caution: Blingtasm Ahead

Good morning, Dear Reader!  I have loads and loads of pictures for you today.

The first batch isn't so chipper, so feel free to skip to the Blingtastic part - you'll know it when you see it.  Yesterday, I got the word that my Uncle Bud, my mom's last remaining brother, passed away late Monday.  I decided to do a mourning mani for him, which mad me feel a little better.  It's not the most aesthetically pleasing I've ever done, so I left out the details of the plate numbers, as I doubt any of you will want to duplicate my Uncle Bud mani.  I did use my blackest black, which I haven't shown to you yet, and that's the bottle in the picture - Lippmann Collection's Fade to Black.

Uncle Bud was a sailor in the Navy during WWII, so I used a bubble pattern for water.  Once he was home and married, he dedicated his life to breeding and showing champion German Shepherds - he was one of those breeders who bred out the defects, bred in personality, and basically covered the costs of his travel and raising the dogs with the proceeds of his hobby, so I added a puppy to it.  Since his nickname was Bud, I did rosebuds for the tips.

Before I show you the mani on the depressing note of his death, I thought I'd partake of the Irish way of mourning: telling funny stories about the deceased.  I think of two for my uncle, and will give you a little background for the stories...

My grandparents were Irish immigrants, and at the time of their childhood in Ireland, the poor only got to go to school through the third grade, so neither had too much education.  They had eleven children, with two sets of twins and one single dying in infancy, leaving six remaining.  My grandfather died when my mom was five, which left my grandmother to support herself and her six kids as a cleaning lady during The Depression.  My mom was the youngest, with Bud being five years older, so he got stuck taking care of her a lot of the time.  One of my mom's favorite stories, which she must have told me a hundred times (killing herself laughing every single time), was that it was Bud's job to walk her home in the summer evenings when she was small.  He'd hold her hand and take her most of the way home as he was supposed to, then he'd look at her and say, "It's a nice night for a m-u-u-u-urd-e-e-r..." and run away.  She'd go screaming after him every time, which only encourage him to do it!  Another was of him being a good twelve-year-old, with a desire to help out his overworked mom.  He came hime from school and noticed that the kitchen floor needed to be waxed, so he waxed it with the shiniest thing he could find - bacon grease!  That was my Uncle Bud.  On that happier note, here's the mani...

On to the blingtasm!  I tried out Nfu-Oh 66 this morning, and pictures don't show quite how fantastically holo-y this one is, but I'll try.  For a base coat on mega-holos, I've had the most success using something slightly sticky, so I used Sally Hansen Insta Grip.  I let the first coat dry for a minute or two, apply the second coat, and let that dry for another two minutes before applying top coat.  When the top coat goes on, it seems to dull the blingyness of the polish, but not to worry - as it dries, the full effect of the holo returns.

Check out the bottle - the Nfu-Oh bottles are amazing!  Here's a little look at the front, the back, and the top.

Every single detail of them is ornate and perfect - I just love them!

Nfu-Oh #66 was not the end of my mani today, though.  One thing I like a lot with mega-holos is an all-over Konad pattern in a non-holo polish.  That, for me, accentuates the blingtastic goodness of the base polish.  I used a swirly pattern from plate M63 that gives the effect of water marbling without the mess, using SpaRitual Surreal to compliment the green of #66.  Here she is!

I'm pretty dang pleased with it.  It's not my most perfect application ever, but washing my hair will make the little bits on the skin go away, so I'm not concerned about them.

That's what I have for you today, Dear Reader.  Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Brucci Black Emerald

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Recently, on my message board, I was lamenting the fact that I've never seen Brucci polishes in a store.  No sooner had I gotten that out of my system than I had an email from a woman who offered to pick up the colors I was pining after for me!  They arrived yesterday, and are nothing short of stunning.

The one I was most excited about, Black Emerald, looked a little muddy in the bottle, but I decided to give it a go anyhow.  I was thrilled to find that its appearance in the bottle is deceptive - on the nail, it's amazing.  Here she is!

This is too pretty for even me to Konad, so I think that's all I have for you for today.  Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Play 'Til Midnight with Konad!

Good evening, Dear Reader!

Boredom got the best of me this afternoon - I'm exhausted, but cannot sleep.  My solution?  Play with Konad!

I started with a base of OPI's Play 'Til Midnight, then added a moon and stars pattern from Fauxnad plate C01 using Revlon Lily Chrome for the stamping.  Here's what I ended up with.

That's all for today, Dear Reader.  Here's to a good night's sleep for both of us!  Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Misa Dreamy Purple & My Challenge Mani

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I have a few pictures for you today - I still have some in the vault that you haven't seen yet, and I don't want to get too far behind in showing them to you, so you get two days' worth today.

First up is yesterday's NOTD, which was Misa's Dreamy Purple.  The pictures of this one don't do it justice - it's like royal purple foil on the nail.  I loved it, and here's three coats with a base and top coat.

Next up, we have my challenge mani.  I'm not telling who challenged me or how it came about - I get to keep some secrets!  My category was LE Exclusive, and so I chose Essie's Cocktail Party, the LE Ulta exclusive I showed you a while back.  Here it is on its own.

Since it was not even 5:00 a.m. when I finished, I decided to add a bit of subtle Konading to it.  I selected China Glaze's Desire and a floral tip pattern so it would be subtle, but it's a bit too subtle, I'm afraid.  It barely shows up.  Since it won't kill me to have an understated manicure for one day, I took pictures anyhow.  Here she is!

That's what I have for you for ow, Dear Reader.  Until later, love and nail polish to you!

Nubar Pastel Fever

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Today I have a great big giant post for you.  Since Nubar has two new collections coming out in February (I showed you the flyer for the Coral Collection recently, and the Cleopatra Collection's flyer is at the end of this post), some of you might be planning a Nubar haul, I thought I'd show you the Nubar collection that I have but haven't shown to you yet.  It's Pastel Fever, and has some spectacular colors for Spring.  The other cool thing I've found, for at least Orange Creme and Oh Baby Pink, is that they work for Konad stamping.  I've shown you some of these before as a base for Konadicures, as they're all great for that, but wanted to show you the colors on their own as well.

Each is three very thin coats over a base without top coat, and all are cremes.  Like other Nubar cremes I've used, they're exceptionally smooth and even, and easy to apply.  One note - their names are very simple and appropriate, so I have little commentary on the colors.  Here they are, in the order they're in the package.

Baby Blue is first up, and I don't have another blue similar to this.

Green Tea is second, and I've shown this to you before with pink Konad on it.  This is a truly unique green.

Lemon Sorbet is my palest yellow, and the most streak-free of all my yellows.

Lavender is aptly named, and is just a perfect shade of Lavender.  This one begs me for some blue Konad!

Orange Creme is a great pastel Orange, and I've used it to Konad over Lemon Sorbet with great results.

The last three are pinks, but they're different from one another.  Pink Creme is the brightest of the three, yet still distinctly pastel.

Oh Baby Pink is paler than Pink Creme, and is my favorite for a pink base for Konad.

The palest, of course, is Baby Pink, and is on my list of polishes to try for stamping with Konad.

That, Dear Reader, is Nubar's Pastel Fever.  Whew!  I love them one and all, and wanted to give you a look at them to help you plot a Nubar haul, and hope the pictures are useful to you.  Here's the promo picture of the second set to be released that I promised at the beginning of this post, the Cleopatra Collection, just so you know what's coming up.

One a completely unrelated note, this coming Friday I'm doing a random drawing for a brand spankin' new bottle of OPI's Black Tie Optional.  If you haven't entered yet, please do!  The drawing is open to all readers worldwide, your name will show on the list of entries as you enter it (so no need to enter your full name), and your email address will only be used to notify you that you've won.  In case you've never seen this hard to find polish, here it is!

Good luck, and until tomrrow, Dear Reader, love and nail polish to you!
