Nubar Conserve

Good morning, Dear Reader!

No early February list of Produce I Wish I Had would be complete without one thing:

Asparagus!
Asparagus is probably my favorite Spring food.  During one recent summer, I think I made asparagus and broiled salmon three times a week and never got sick of either.  There are no asparagus stories, and I've never even grown it, I'm just a huge fan.  Few things in the world can beat a plate of steamed asparagus with just enough sweet butter to make a little bit of salt stick to it.  Wow, I really, really want some now!

For the manicure, I decided to just do an accent nail.  I wanted to make the asparagus from the same color as I used the other nails, so I chose the very pigmented Nubar Conserve as the main color.  I thought I knew the location of some nail art brushes, but I really only knew the location of some dotting tools.  I'd already set up the billion colors I used, so I just went with the dotting tools.  It's not the best job ever - without the picture above, I doubt anyone would guess what it is, but that would be reasonable.  How often would "asparagus" be a good guess for anything related to a manicure?

I think it looks more like an especially crappy bunch of flowers, but that's alright for one day.  The good thing about nail polish is that it comes right off!

That's what I have for you today, Dear Reader.  Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Nubar Forest & Konad Plate M59

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I'm finally free to use my Nubar greens without feeling guilty, so I'm having some fun with them. Today I used Forest, the creme, and added a little Konad to it. Well, not so much little...

I started with a coat of ridge filler, added two coats of Forest, topped it with Diamont, then two patterns from plate M59 and another coat of Diamont. Now my nails are as girly as can be.

Nubar Wildlife

Good evening, Dear Reader!

I just got around to doing a mani today, and I used a little pretty that just showed up this afternoon: Nubar's Wildlife. That's the sixth of the Going Green Collection that I didn't have for you when I showed you the rest, and since they're available now, I thought I'd show it to you.

The mani is a coat of ridgefiller, two coats of Wildlife, and one of Diamont. I took a zillion pictures because even the tiniest change in light makes this one look different. This is one hardcore Nubar duochrome!!!

How's that for a killer duochrome, huh? I love it!

Nubar Conserve the Garden Konadicure

Good afternoon, Dear Reader!

I'm finally getting caught up on posting pictures. This time, I have today's actual KOTD for you.

I've been trying to hold off on using my Nubar greens until everybody can have them, but I'm weak. Conserve was sitting on my shelf just staring at me, calling out to me, for the last few days, and I finally cracked and used it. I simply had to!

I only had twenty minutes before I had to leave this morning when I started my manicure, so I just removed the old, did a coat of Nu Nails, two coats of Conserve, topped it with Diamont, and ran out the door. I got to my destination, and the receptionist just stared at my nails for a moment and commented on what a fantastic color it is. Then I met with my lawyer (who always has a short acrylic French mani with perpetual tip wear), and she told me what a spectacular color it is. How fun!

I stopped to pick something up on my way home, and the cashier commented on it as well (and asked if I really do my nails every single week - ha!). The real kicker was when I made one more stop at a little nail salon to see what there was to see, and both manicurists complimented Conserve. Five compliments in one day, let alone on just a plain mani rather than nail art, is now my personal record. Yay!

Once I got home, I decided to take a little Konad break before I went about doing some work. I thought I'd make a little garden scene. I started with a floral pattern from Konad plate M67 using White Konad Special Nail Polish offset at the cuticle, then added a butterfly coming in for a landing to my tips from Konad plate M26 using Yellow Konad Special Nail Polish. I took pics outside in the somewhat hazy sunlight to show you the wicked shimmer the base nail polish has.

I've come to the conclusion that even though they can be a little messier to work with, I really do generally prefer Konad nail polishes for stamping. The only difference I can tell between the Special and Princess polishes is the shape and volume of the bottle and the color selection. The stamps just come out more opaque, crisp, and clean than when I use regular nail polish. The exceptions to that would be chromes, holos, and for silver and gold I favor Orly Dazzle and Orly Glitz to any others I've tried. Using the new Princess Nail Polishes I recently got has reminded me how much better they really are.

On the topic of Konad polishes, check them out at Wow So Cool. That's where I got my recent haul, and it was 20% off with code "nailphile" (it applies to plates as well), and shipping's free over $20. I strongly recommend the Princess Polishes - they've added some seriously hot colors, and they're a little bit cheaper per ounce than the Princess Polishes. I've bought almost all of my Konad supplies from Wow So Cool, and they've never failed me. This last batch of Princess Polishes has me all fired up about Konad again, even more than getting new plates has in the past. I'm having a blast!

That's all for today, Dear Reader. Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Going Green with Nubar

Good evening, Dear Reader!

It turns out UPS did let me down, but with the help of the office of my building, it was salvaged. UPS delivered my package to the building across the street, then when I finally got it, they smashed one of my six bottles in transit. Ah, well, it didn't take all six to blow my socks off anyhow!

I did some begging, pleading, nagging, arm twisting, and got pre-release samples of a new limited edition collection we'll see soon from Nubar called Going Green with Nubar. It consists of six greens, but as I mentioned the sixth was smashed smashed, so I can't show you that one. I do have the five that survived the trip, and here they are, two coats each.

Conserve is a sparkly bluish green shimmer.

Earth is a more sparkly, much more blue green shimmer.

Forest is a deep green creme.

Greener is a really hot hot hot deep green shimmer. Did I mention it's hot?

Reclaim is a true green holo. Yes, finally, a true green holo.

The sixth, unfortunately, will likely remain a mystery until they're released. I seriuosly doubt that I can get another one...

So this is the package that was guaranteed to, and completely did, blow my socks off. As soon as I know more about when these will come out, I'll publish it.

Until next time, love and nail polish to you!
