Frugalista; Look Rich, Be Cheap

I'm sorry? You want to name your EIGHTEEN DOLLAR nail polish "Frugalista"?

Who writes the names for this company--Bill Gates? If this counts as frugal for you, Bill, I've got some other great deals you might want to look into. For instance, I will let you finish my bag of jelly beans for a mere twenty dollars. And the shirt off my back can be yours for a mere C-note. Actually, I know you're a fan of this blog. And I'll tell you what. You can hire me as your personal columnist, to write about whatever you want, for the outrageous bargain of four million dollars a year. Let me know.

Honestly, I love this color, but this is just a ridiculous price for some glitter soaked in chemicals. If you feel like spending eighteen dollars today, here are some things you could get instead. You could purchase two and two thirds tuning keys for your autoharp (autoharp not included). You could send a child in India to school for a year. You could disguise yourself as a hipster and wreak havoc on unsuspecting boys in girls' pants. Or you could buy the album AND the buttons of the new supergroup involving some guys from Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, the guitarist from Smashing Pumpkins/A Perfect Circle, and one of the Hansen Brothers. And you would still have enough money left over for a coathanger to puncture your eardrums!

And while we're at it, Rescue Beauty Lounge: spending eighteen bucks to put THIS on your nails will make you Look Rich and Be Cheap?

Sorry, honey. As the immortal Willy Wonka would say: strike that, reverse it.

Going Green with Nubar

Good evening, Dear Reader!

It turns out UPS did let me down, but with the help of the office of my building, it was salvaged. UPS delivered my package to the building across the street, then when I finally got it, they smashed one of my six bottles in transit. Ah, well, it didn't take all six to blow my socks off anyhow!

I did some begging, pleading, nagging, arm twisting, and got pre-release samples of a new limited edition collection we'll see soon from Nubar called Going Green with Nubar. It consists of six greens, but as I mentioned the sixth was smashed smashed, so I can't show you that one. I do have the five that survived the trip, and here they are, two coats each.

Conserve is a sparkly bluish green shimmer.

Earth is a more sparkly, much more blue green shimmer.

Forest is a deep green creme.

Greener is a really hot hot hot deep green shimmer. Did I mention it's hot?

Reclaim is a true green holo. Yes, finally, a true green holo.

The sixth, unfortunately, will likely remain a mystery until they're released. I seriuosly doubt that I can get another one...

So this is the package that was guaranteed to, and completely did, blow my socks off. As soon as I know more about when these will come out, I'll publish it.

Until next time, love and nail polish to you!

OPI Brights 2009

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Today I have OPI's new Brights, created in conjunction with Paige Premium Denim. They're the last of my sparkling*nails package that I still haven't shown you.

I'll tell you what, they confused me. They're all three-coaters, and the brush seems to have gottem even bigger - it's a little mop again. The confusions doen't end there, and you'll see what I mean in the pictures. They're just not that bright, and most have are dupes of other OPI nail polish colors that were just released in recent years.

We'll start with A Grape Fit!, which seems awfully close to OPI Do You Lilac It?

Next is In My Back Pocket, which is along the lines of a few oranges we've seen from OPI (Atomic Orange & Friends).

Then there's No Room for the Blues, which looks like OPI Just Groovy with a new label on it.

On the Same Paige is an orange-y red creme (all of these are cremes, btw). I can't think of the dupe for this one offhand, but would bet my stash it's out there.

Here's the real kicker of this collection: Over the Taupe. No it's not. It's just taupe, which isn't either a bright or related to denim. I'm no color expert, but Suzi? Paige? Whatcha thinkin' here?

That brings us to Shorts Story, a pink creme whoch I'd identified the duplicate for earlier, but can't recall now. Again, I'll just bet my stash that it's an existent color from OPI.

Yawn. Stretch. Yawn again...

The good news is that I have been promised that something super-secret & guaranteed to knock my socks off will be here this afternoon. Let's hope the UPS guiy doesn't make me wait until Monday!

Until then, Dear Reader, love and nail polish to you!
